CD 4: CHIC (1977)

The 1977 self-titled debut album by CHIC is one of their best, featuring bassist/songwriter Bernard Edwards and guitarist/songwriter Nile Rodgers. Unfortunately this is the only CHIC album featuring co-lead singer Norma Jean Wright, who would release a solo album the following year. An interesting note is Luther Vandross sang backing vocals on the album.

The singles "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" and "Everybody Dance" performed well on several charts (including #1 dance/club play), and the album itself hit #27 on the pop charts, #12 R&B.

I like CHIC because it's a perfect example of early disco, with some of the best basslines ever. The instrumental track "São Paulo" is equally as good as the hit singles.
