LP 1: The Supremes "Mary, Scherrie & Susaye"

The final album by The Supremes is my favorite, and is considered a cult disco classic.

During the mid-70's, idiot self-appointed manager Pedro Ferrer (Mary Wilson's then-husband) was working away at driving the group into the ground, even going as far as telling Wilson "The Supremes are dead!". Motown could care less about the group, as they were more focused on Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, and some of their current big stars. Their live act suffered, but the studio music from that era is some of their best.

Mary, Scherrie & Susaye from 1976 is produced by the returning Holland brothers team, but failed to chart. The singles "You're My Driving Wheel", "Let Yourself Go" and "Love I Never Knew You Could Feel So Good" all done well on the disco/dance charts, hitting #5. Scherrie Payne carries the lead vocals on the disco tunes, Wilson has the ballads, and Susaye Greene has a lead on "Come Into My Life".

MS&S was released on record and tape formats, but has never received a CD reissue. However, it's scheduled to be released on the TBA Supremes 70's albums volume 2 aka The Scherrie Payne Years, from Universal's Hip-O Select business (click here for volume 1).

Scott, "Mary, Scherrie and Susaye" was not that great an album. Only "Sweet Dream Machine," and "We Should Be Closer Together" were the standouts.

When will the next set be released? I really want the remainder of the 70's Supremes works on CD.
